The church is the vehicle in which Jesus chose to carry out his work as led by Holy Spirit. This vehicle is also the mechanism utilized to bring Israel back to God through jealousy as stated in Romans 11.
The church is known as the bride of Christ and if you follow the traditional Hebraic wedding as shown in the Word there is a process in which must be undertaken before the bridegroom,
Jesus comes to get his bride. The bride has a role also. Make herself ready while she waits for him to reappear. That is what takes us to Matthew 25:1-13 Go through this a bit at a time PRAY
“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2Five of them were foolish and five were wise.
Context is the Kingdom Compared to ten virgins waiting. Some theories here are that the split is between the church and the Jewish, also that the time frame of this is the Great Tribulation. We will dig further as we go.
3The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them.
This is where the distinction comes Maybe the Jews as they were foolish in some eyes bc they did not recognize Jesus as Savior, despite all the evidence. But the oil is the telling sign here. Explain why in a bit.
4The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
This is what sets apart the wise from unwise, preparation.
The oil in the lamps is the key. Let’s examine that. It was not until Pentecost did Holy Spirit inhabit the children of God. He is the seal of redemption
A receipt for the transaction that is the purchase of salvation.
HS is the evidence for who is and who is not saved. So if the oil is HS then the five unwise are not the Hebrew. This would entirely be the church to come.
Remember this is a prophetic passage.
Despite the belief of John Peter Paul Jesus details here that its going to be a while before he returns. This causes the Kingdom people to get bored. Boredom in waiting leads to drowsiness which leads to falling asleep.
Falling asleep Like when Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane what did he tell James John
Peter? Luke 22:40 Pray you do not fall into temptation.
6“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ 7“Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps.
At Midnight how did they know he was coming?
There were watchman spread through the city to the outer reaches.
They used their network like the military in that age to spread information back to HQ that the object is in sight even when he is far out. Remember the bride and her party is asleep.
Here at the sound of the watchman they awake.
The Kingdom is sleepy it is hurting it is weary and they trimmed their lamps.
- The trimming consisted in removing the charred portion of the wick,
- & raising the wick itself by means of a pointed wire was fastened by a chain to each lamp.
- This would be followed by the replenishment of the vase with oil.
- In a spiritual sense the dormant grace has to be revived at the awful summons both wise and foolish
8The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
It had, indeed, come upon all unexpectedly at the moment; but while one party was ready to meet the emergency, the other was wholly unprepared.
The foolish, got their wicks ready to light, when they suddenly discovered that they had no oil in their lamps, and remembered that they had brought no further supply with them. They did not prepare. They did not believe he was coming.
9“‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
This proves the oil is not HS bc it cannot be bought. This is your faithfulness to the Lord. The wise by removing what hindered the clear burning of them; by casting off the works of darkness, and causing the light of good works to shine before men, and by applying to Christ for fresh supplies of the oil of grace, to fill their lamps, revive their light and heat, and keep them burning: and the latter, only by a few outward decorations, and external performances; to make their outward profession of religion look as bright as possibly they could.
10“But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
V10 discloses the truth This is a catching away A rapture from their dwelling The banquet awaited The ceremony was awaiting the marriage day had come bc the groom had a bride who made herself ready.
Look at the church now. The church is backslidden. We are split with those who are lazy to the things of God 60% not paying attention and do not believe we are in end times. But those who are faith Those who are faithful. Prepared. And the door was shut. There is no getting in
11“Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’ 12“But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’
This tells a story Some do not get in despite being in the bridal party Association with the bride does not make you the bride. What does your faith look like? Who is Jesus to you? Do you know Him? 13“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.”
We may not know but the command is keep watch. Do not fall asleep Take off the darkness walk in the light Go with Who you know. He is faithful & true.
