Nov 30^th The Love of God

As disclosed earlier this year on PT 2, Tim 3 shows us that the age we are in is an age where love will fade. People will love $ & self.

Matthew 24 Jesus declares hearts of many grow cold. Maybe we have misunderstood love.

What it is and where it derives from. What is the genuine article of love? Many times when love is taught on it is done so from the Greek perspective of the NT. Rarely does anyone teach on the OT form & representation.

OT has 4 words for love Today we are not going to look at the exhaustive study of.

Genesis 22:2Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

This is the 1^st mention of love aheb Perfect love. It is a verb.

Most frequently used in OT over 200x also can be a noun. This is a relational love.

Two people are involved. Joined in a bond of covenant and blood. Here it is family love.

Many other Versions use love in previous verses but they are improper translations.

Here family love is the 1^st mentioned what did the adversary attack 1^st?

Love in the family he tempted Eve and Adam Mistake?

Deliberate strategy –he attacked Gods love.

Just what is this form of love & why was it attacked by the fallen choirboy angel?

This word is THE WORD to describe the relationship between himself & his people.

Deut 6:5
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

The command is there but what is the example? The example starts in the Garden.

Love provided all they needed. It is freedom but freedom has boundaries.

Those boundaries increased as disobedience increased in the way of the law of Moses.

They showed God love by being obedient to the law. Deut 11:11-13

Remember this is the verb form. Love requires action.

The notion of an angry hostile no tolerant God in OT is faulty. (DIG)

Chesed is the noun form of love250X+ in the Torah.

Various Translations use it in a different manner.

Loving kindness Stead fast love Loyal Love Mercy & Loyal love

Notice this again is all relational. Key words derive from the Translations

Let’s dwell on loyal love for a moment. The depth of the term loyal. This represents many attributes of His character. Loyal to you despite you Provided for you despite you.

Unswayed by the world loyal to you! The covenantal promises to Abraham Noah Moses David display this very truth.

1 Chronicles 16:34 His love endures forever! Repeated 5 more times in OT.

Conceptionally OT love did not change it involves a relationship between people & groups

He loves us and calls us to share that love with another despite how they may treat another.

The book of Hosea is a story of the pastors’ wife being unfaithful Significant because that is how God saw Israel and yet God still loves Israel & called Hosea to continue to love his wife.

Now how far have we strayed? How far to feed our flesh and consume another with rage hatred animosity and vengeance.

There is no use of the term Chesed to describe love between human and animal humans and objects humans and food.

The word is never used to describe intimate sexual relations between the same gender.

Don’t give me love is love. The bible says differently.

Love is what sustained Israel from the unrestrained wrath of God. God exhibited the same show of consequences to them as we should a disobedient child. The more you stray from the structure of operating with love the more structure is imposed before a disciple of a harder degree is given.

Then, in the expanse of time of dealing and overcoming their enemies of dealing and overcoming their wayward hearts, God began to speak through the profits of the article of love which would come and lead them.

Israel sadly mistook who and what that would be.

In the NIV, love is mentioned over 600 times, as it is the theme for the entirety of the word, represented by the word

Agape it is still relational.

Some may bring up the additional words for love & their meanings. The focus is agape.

1 John 4 gives the details of God’s love, yet in V16 we have it in writing, God is love.

In other words if it is not the same love that God gave us shows us  and handles us in it is not love.

What is the motive behind God’s model that love is how we are to operate by?

Weren’t there wars killings rapes theft in the OT? Oh yes. Let’s go back to loyalty.

Obeying God shows him love.

In the NT darkness has now swept through the culture.

The people emphasize their possessions their money more than God.

The war with the darkness & its agents has been ignored.

Gods’people are now under foreign occupation.

At this point the church is corrupt bc the rituals have taken the place of faith.

Preordained action was about to be taken.

The action would shake the world give it the means to fellowship and share in Gods love.

God himself was about to move in history physically for the purpose of saving the world through His love.

Love is the reason

God sent his Son to the world (John 3:16).
